Info and Service :: In the event of problems with the Guard
Please check correct functioning of AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic Guard with the aid of the following checklists if problems occur with AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic Guard or if you cannot eliminate detected malware yourself.
Checklist
Is the Guard service active?
The icon (the umbrella) in the bottom right-hand corner of the system tray of the taskbar must be open!If necessary, enable the service: In the taskbar, select "Start | Settings | Control Panel". Start the configuration panel "Services" with a double-click (under Windows 2000 and Windows XP the services applet is located in the sub-directory "Administrative Tools"). Find the entry "AntiVirService". "Automatic" must be entered as the startup type and ôStartedö as the service status. If necessary, start the service manually by selecting the relevant line and the button "Start". If an error message appears, please check the event display.
If this is not successful, you may have to completely deinstall AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic via "Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs", restart the computer and then reinstall AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic.
If the service is active, please check whether at least the setting Local drives is enabled in the configuration under Guard :: Scan :: Drives.
Check the setting in the group Files in the configuration under Guard :: Scan. If Use file extension list is enabled here, you should check the file extension list and set to default values where appropriate.
Has AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic Guard scanned the file at all?
Set reporting to Complete in the configuration under Guard :: Report. Test the access again and then check the report file (opened via Control Center :: View :: Guard with the button Display report file). If you find a lot of entries marked ôAccess deniedö in the report file, please check the following: the Guard service always needs access rights to the console to display the warnings, i.e. it must be registered under the local system account "SYSTEM". In addition, the option ôAllow service to interact with desktopô (Index card "Log On" ) must be enabled in the control panel under the service properties. For this reason, please also note that the local system account "SYSTEM" requires full access rights to all local hard disks and drives.
